Chief Ethanol Fuels Inc. reaches Billion Gallon Milestone

Chief Ethanol Fuels, Inc., a subsidiary of Chief Industries, Inc. surpassed a billion gallons of Ethanol produced in mid February. They were highlighted in a recent newscast on NTV News.

When the plant went online 25 years ago, they thought it was huge, producing 10 million gallons a year. But at that rate, it would've taken a century to reach a billion gallons. They've made several upgrades over the years that have increased capacity.

Chief has grown along with the industry, now producing 70 million gallons a year. They buy an estimated 80 percent of the corn grown in Adams County -- 25 million bushels.

No fanfare marked the big milestone. In fact, it was someone in the state ethanol board office who noticed they'd crossed the billion gallon barrier just after Valentine's Day.
